Discovering your Purpose

Blog

The year is 2000 ish and I can still vividly remember waiting up until about 1:00 am to watch the runway shows on the Style Network, that was always my favorite TV station. I would study the runway, the models, their runway walk and most importantly what they were wearing. I became so intrigued with fashion and how you could tell a story through just clothing, how each garment gave a different emotion, how the clothes would speak for themselves. I always looked at fashion as a form of expression and style as a way of authenticity. I was in my last year of high school & unsure of what I wanted to do with my life but I knew Fashion/Style held a special place in my heart. Fast foreword to 35 & not much has changed….

I don’t know if it’s because we’re right in the last days of this decade or what but I’ve been dwelling on a lot of things lately; one in particular is What is my purpose? Although this can be a pretty loaded question for me it comes down to a few things…What was I placed here to do? How can I be of service to others? What makes my heart smile? My soul full? What do I actually enjoy doing? So many people go through life lost with no direction and wonder why they have no ambition….I think that has a lot to do with not walking in your purpose. When something truly interests you it brings you an abundance of joy, it will fill you up as opposed to draining every ounce of energy you’ve got. That’s what fashion does for me, it makes me happy, it allows for me to creatively express myself…it gives me a sense of fulfillment. This feeling isn’t new to me whatsoever but, lately I’ve been feeling a bit stagnant and that is a feeling I absolutely cannot stand. So it got me to thinking, Yes fashion is something I enjoy…a hobby to an extent but is it my calling? What could I do for the rest of my life and not absolutely dread after a few years?…What could get me out of bed every morning and not bitch & complain while getting dressed? What do I constantly find myself thinking about in my idle time? No surprise to me when the answer was fashion.

I think when something is really for you it never ever goes away, it’s like you can’t ignore your destiny. It may seem like it goes away for a bit but it never truly disappear, it’s always in the background just waiting for the perfect time to pop back up and remind you of what you should be doing…That’s kinda what fashion has been doing to me. I’ve been in my current field for almost 10 years now and still haven’t felt that spark that fashion gives me, that undeniable passion. That’s where a lot of people are in their professional lives, mediocre jobs that pay the bills but drain their souls. So many people are afraid to take a chance on their dreams because their dreams may seem to big or unattainable and end up miserable working 40+ hrs a week with 20 hrs of vacation time a year (that you have to ask permission to use). I CANNOT BE THAT PERSON…it literally makes me cringe just thinking about it. Do you know how much energy it takes to get up and force yourself to go to a job that you barely even like every morning? Whew chile! The ghetto.

The dream is the easy part, the hustle is where you separate the dreamers from the doers. Even while I’m dreaming I’m thinking about fashion 🤦🏽‍♀️…I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been laying in bed at night wide awake curating outfits in my head, LOL! Like it has literally kept me up at night, on some occasions I’ve even gotten out of bed and tried the outfits on….it’s really that bad, LOL. Whenever I’m invited out my first thought is always, What am I going to wear?🤔 an invitation anywhere is just an excuse to dress up in my opinion.

For this look I chose to wear this suit I purchased from Boohoo.com, I have been absolutely obsessed with suits this Fall. I love to see all the street style stars styling theirs in a variety of a ways with sneakers, heels, boots, combat boots, sandals and of course pumps. I chose to pair my suit with a pair of snake print booties from Shein.com to give it a mixed prints type of look, I think it looked pretty cool up against the checkered print in the pants. The pants are ankle length making them the perfect length to show off the booties. I have been on the hunt for a grayish/white fedora and found this gem on SoleSociety.com….in person its more gray than white but what I love most about this fedora is the sturdy brim, LOL. Yes I am kinda like a fedora connoisseur being that they are my favorite hats ever and I’ve collected my fair share over the years. Nothing grinds my gears more than a fedora with a floppy brim, if I wanted a hat with a floppy brim I would’ve purchased a floppy hat..LOL. My favorite part about this outfit is definitely the blazer! It’s double breasted, slightly over sized with small shoulder pads to give it a little structure and a small buckle to give it some edge. The fit is perfect for me, I am already thinking of re wearing it as a dress with some thigh high boots…not now though, it officially hit Winter a few days ago and I WILL NOT BE CAUGHT IN THE COLD..LOL. On this day it was a solid 30 degrees outside hence the teddy coat being in most of my pics, SMH. That was not apart of the plan but the weather had other plans and well I’m not freezing for no one, not even the perfect shot.

I think we’re all born with gifts/talent(s) that to often get ignored or brushed under the rug, I think it’s so unfortunate when this happens. I don’t want to be that old lady who at 70+ have regrets on not going after that dream. My biggest fear is having that, I wonder what would’ve happen if I just tried? thought wrecking havoc on my brain. Nothing worse then lingering “What if’s” floating around your mind. I don’t know what my future holds but I do know it doesn’t include me just sitting on my dreams. It doesn’t include me wasting my gift, that would be a disgrace. It’s our own job to hone in on those talents and put them to good use, It’s not work if you enjoy doing it. We’ve got a few days left in this decade, figure out what you love and get to it. Your dreams are waiting…

Happy Bloggerversary

Blog

Hey guys! I cannot believe that it has actually been a little over a year since I started my blog, after all the years of putting it off the first year came & went in the blink of an eye. My first post went live on December 11, 2018..I went into it with no real clue about blogging, how it actually worked or if this was something I could even be good at. I started with what I had (my iPhone 7+, a Chromebook & a vision) and just went for it. I knew I had a passion for fashion/style and was pretty good at writing so combining the two was perfect for me.

Over the past year I’ve been trying to figure out what direction I wanted to take my professional life in (I currently work in healthcare) but I always knew I had a strong interest for all things Fashion/Style so, I wanted to start a blog to see if that held my interest. Believe it or not there are people who live off of blogging (sponsorship’s, brand collaborations etc) alone, it has really become a game changer in recent years. Needless to say my interest is stronger now than it has ever been! It’s been my creative outlet this past year and my interest has grown so much since starting this blog. I knew I needed an outlet to help me express my creativity and a space where I could write and share it with whoever was willing to read it…even if that person was just me, LOL. I’ve received such good feedback over the past year which has been especially inspiring during my moments of doubt. Blogging looks so fun and easy on the outside (it is really fun) but it is far from easy. The main thing I think I’ve had trouble with is consistency, I’ll either go weeks/months without a single blog post or back to back posts…there is really no in between. Not really surprising to me being that I am an all in or all the way out kind of human, LOL.

For this particular shoot I had a completely different outfit in mind (which involved a skirt) but decided to go with this sort of monochromatic look instead. It hasn’t officially become Winter yet according to the calendar, but as far as I’m concerned once the temperature goes below 40 degrees It’s definitely winter in my book, LOL. If you’ve been reading my posts you already know I absolutely DESPISE the winter time, more particularly being cold in any capacity. I’ve been a big fan of Faux Fur for some time now and this Nasty Gal coat was love at first sight! I’m giving rich auntie tease in this entire look, it’s such a vibe! I’ve been wanting to do a monochromatic look and although this isn’t entirely all one color it is close enough, LOL. The blazer and pants are both from Pretty Little Thing and how come none of y’all never told me that their clothes were mediocre at best…or maybe that’s just my opinion. On the web sight the pants looked completely different than the paper thin pants I received in the mail, not to mention the fabrics didn’t match AT ALL. I was completely unhappy with the entire purchase smh but decided to make the best of it.

One thing blogging has taught me is that dedication is truly the key ingredient to accomplishing any goal, nothing happens if nothing happens. If you don’t have the passion or the drive than you don’t have the result(s), period or periodt…whichever one you prefer LOL. We live during a time where everyone has some type of side hustle so it’s easy to get caught up in other people’s lives but focusing on their results won’t get you the results you’re trying to get. Keep up with what you have going on even when you feel like nothing is happening, It’ll all pay off in the long run.

The internet can be a really weird place sometimes, your biggest supporters are often times complete strangers…while the people you’ve known nearly your entire life never even mentions your blog. I’ve always thought that was so strange until I realized not everybody will recognize or celebrate your accomplishments and that’s fine, I’m finally starting to get that now. That’s why I’ve always thought it was important to celebrate yourself and your accomplishments, even the small ones; even if you’re the only one cheering. Learn how to be your own cheerleader and motivation, keep going and grinding even if no one is clapping because trust me they see everything you’re doing even when they claim not too.

Nonetheless year one has been super dope and inspiring, I cannot wait to see what I come up with in the next year. As usual my mind is overflowing with ideas…being a creative with this much creative energy is overwhelming LOL. I’ve learned so much already and look forward to learning a shit ton more, I’m especially excited to watch this blog grow and see where it could take me. I talked about this in a post before but I think the hardest part about starting something new is just starting…that really is it. The process/journey is where you learn all the things you’ll need to progress, but if you don’t start you don’t learn shit. You can watch all the YouTube videos, read the blogs, listen to the Podcasts, so on and so forth and still not learn a fraction of the things you’ll learn from just doing it yourself. Those resources are helpful but experience is priceless. So if you’ve ever read any of my posts, sent me a message, left a comment, shared my photo(s) on Instagram or even the ghost readers, I thank you all! Seriously, it means a lot to me :). Year 1 down! So many more to go, stay tuned!

Me at my future house recording an episode of MTV cribs, LMAO! does that show even come on still? I just gave away my age LOL

Why you should stop procrastinating TODAY

Blog

So I’m just gonna start off by saying I am probably one of the biggest procrastinators you’ve ever met, no exaggeration lol. I’m not sure what it is or why I do it so often, but it definitely has to be one of my least favorable traits. Lets take my blog for example; I clearly remember having a conversation on New Years Eve way back in either 2013 or 2014 with my friend about starting a blog, I’d just made my Instagram page and was formally introduced to blogging. Before Instagram I wasn’t really to familiar with blogging, only blog I really read was Necole Kane’s old blog Necolebitchie which was a music/fashion/gossip type of blog, but blogs strictly dedicated to fashion were all but foreign to me.

I literally waited about 5 years before I finally started this blog, FIVE WHOLE YEARS…that is NOT okay. I procrastinated soooooooo much to the point where nobody really wanted to hear nothing else about this blog I was supposed to start years ago. I was overflowing with ideas just letting time get away simply because of procrastination. I made myself believe that the internet didn’t need another fashion blogger which ultimately resulting in me putting it off year after year. I always knew I wanted to start one and I’d done the research and read enough blogs to know the basics on how to start but procrastination and fear won every time. I’d say things like; What if no one reads it? Where do I even start? I am NOT a computer person, how will I design the site? Who’s gonna take my pictures? What if no one reads it?…Again lol. I had every excuse you could think of, all the while just wasting time I could’ve used to at least start the damn thing. Out of everything I’ve done so far I’ve found that starting was the hardest part, I get a little mixed up sometimes with the analytics of the site but the hardest part has been starting….well that and taking my own photos out in public, LOL. I follow a lot of fashion bloggers and I hear people say all the time how in the beginning they struggled with everything from taking photos, gaining an audience to staying consistent, it wasn’t until years and years of trial and error that they finally got the hang of it. I also hear people say often how their blogs didn’t really gain any attention from brands or money for that matter until after being a blogger for several years. I just sit back and think about all the time I’ve wasted and cringe, procrastination will have you out here really missing out on opportunities all because you’re too scared to try. Unfortunately procrastination hasn’t just held me back from starting this blog but it has hindered me in other areas of my life as well. Before you know it days turn to weeks, weeks turn to months and months turn to years and you’ll look up and still haven’t done any of which you set out to do. The craziest part is that 9 times out of 10 you’re 100% capable of doing whatever it is you have your heart set on you but just let procrastination get the best of you.

Aside from procrastination I didn’t want to start from scratch, being at the bottom in a sense was such a turn off to me. I think it had a lot to do with what I was seeing everyday, as I mentioned before I follow a lot of fashion bloggers and I’ve witnessed their growth, growth that looked like it happened overnight. Obviously this isn’t the case but me from the outside looking in it sure did look like it, seeing that made me think of me being a beginner and I was not interested. I wanted to start and get the ball rolling right away and that is definitely not how this works. For some maybe that is the case but for most that simply isn’t it at all. You see people’s success and forget that you don’t know what part of their journey they’re on, maybe they’ve made 100 mistakes before reaching this level, maybe they’ve had their blog for 5+ years…you really never know what someone else’s story is. My favorite stories are the ones who quit their 9-5’s to pursue blogging full time, sounds like an absolute dream to me but it also sounds like a lot of preparation, dedication and hard work. All that to say you have to start somewhere, being a beginner is not a bad thing and with blogging being so common nowadays it’s so much easier to start now then say 5-6 years ago. There are plenty of how to tutorials and cheat sheets you just have to be willing to try.

So let’s get into this look…if you aren’t already aware I am a huge houndstooth fan, it has been a favorite of mine for so many years now. I purchased this sweater last year from Boohoo and was immediately drawn to the colors and fit of the sweater. When I received it in the mail I was in love, the quality is so good not to mention the comfort. I have really sensitive skin and a lot of times fuzzy sweaters irritate my skin so bad to the point where when I take them off my arms and chest are completely red and itchy 😩, thankfully that wasn’t the case with this sweater. The skirt I purchased from Nasty Gal and baybeeee let me tell you how I am obsessed with this here skirt! The color alone is just so perfect, this rich mustard color just screams chic to me. Definitely a color that cane be worn all year round versus maybe a lilac that we usually only see during the Spring. If you’ve been keeping up with my blog you already know my love for silk/satin slip dresses and this is just the skirt version of that 😂, clearly I’m not letting them go. I’ve also been into comfort lately so pairing this skirt with sneakers was a winning combination for me, skirts with sneakers have been the wave lately and I am so into it…my feet haven’t been happier, LOL.

I can’t believe that I am coming up on a year since I launched my blog, although we may not always realize it time really does fly by. I may not had started when I originally planned to but the important part is that I started, I might not understand it now but I’m sure I started when it was supposed to happen. We don’t always get to choose when something will happen we just gotta believe that it will. I cannot believe that we’re in the last 3 months of this decade 🤯, I really don’t understand where the time has gone! 25-35 yrs old has been mind boggling to say the least but this decade owes me nothing, I am so ready for the next 10yrs and to leave procrastinating behind!!

What’s something you’ve been putting off for days, weeks, months, years even? Whatever it is take it from me and do it soon, better yet start right NOW! Whatever was the first thing that came to your mind, yeah that. Don’t let another 10 years go by wishing you would’ve done something differently. You will never be 100% ready for anything in life so your best bet is to just start with what you have and learn as you go. Experience has and always will be the best teacher so what do you really have to loose? Aside from your dream(s)…don’t let fear/procrastination win. I think Nike said it best when they said, JUST DO IT…lol.

Thanks for stopping by and remember, whatever you do, always do it with style.

…..and do it NOW😆

Marquita and The City…

Blog

When I saw this t-shirt on Boohoo I knew I had to have it, Sex and The City was like the blueprint for dating; even til this day. We all wanted to be Carrie Bradshaw and raid her closet, she has to be one of the best dressed lead female characters on any given TV series to date, in my opinion. She was always dressed to perfection with a bomb ass girl gang, not to mention her cute New York City brownstone apartment in Manhattan was just so perfect. Between her wardrobe, apartment, job as a writer and amazing friends I was hooked on this show, although a little late to the party (I didn’t really start watching until I was in my early 20’s) once I did I couldn’t stop. It was just so addicting especially being a young woman myself trying to navigate through the dating world…what a time to be alive, LOL. Watching SATC now in my 30’s is like a completely different experience, some of the episodes and topics just hit different when you have a little experience under your belt. If anyone ever asked me which character was I proudly said Carrie with a healthy dose of Samantha. Well I took one of those on-line quizzes that tell you which SATC character you identified with the most and lo & behold the results said Charlotte…*Blank stare* Lol.

I was so sure I had the optimism of Carrie with the sexy wittiness of Samantha but it turns out I’m an idealistic hopeless romantic like Charlotte 🤔, I BEG TO DIFFER. What do these quizzes really know anyway, lol.

Me casually waiting on Mr Big to disappoint me, again 😒

One moment I can totally identify with Charlotte was in the Sex and The City movie when Mr. Big stood Carrie up on their WEDDING DAY….whew chile my blood still boils when I think about that scene. The look Charlotte gave him when he decided to show up afterwards and talk to her in the middle of the street in front of everyone smh, that “NO!” was so intense. Yep I’m that friend, the protector. Speaking of Mr. Big there is just no way anybody can talk about SATC and not mention his name, he was like the guy everyone loved to hate…including Carrie. Their sometimes toxic relationship served as the focal point for all of Carrie’s other relationships, no matter how many men she dated Mr. Big was always her #1….you know the emotionally unavailable guy you can’t seem to get enough of. Ladies, I feel like at one point or another we’ve all experienced a Mr. Big at some point and if you haven’t you will. And if you happen to dodge him altogether congratulations you’re clearly Gods favorite, LOL. I could go into such great detail about this topic alone but I’ll save that for another day. Men, sex, fashion, writing and shoes were all of Carrie’s strong points as she took us along for the ride, through the elite and sometimes crazy dating scene in Manhattan.

When I thought about how I would style this T-shirt I automatically thought, What would Carrie do? I knew if I wanted to channel my inner Carrie Bradshaw I had to glam it up, I knew I had to take a basic T-shirt and make it pop. For this I decided adding accessories would give it the extra push it needed. Headbands have been everywhere and I was happy to jump on the band wagon, chunky headbands were all over the runways during NYFW adorning the models heads. I felt the pearls gave it all the glam it needed and popped against these studded cat eye sunnies. The bag was definitely a great touch with PVC bags clearly having a moment (see what I did there LOL) this one was perfect. Not like the ones we’ve been seeing with the big handle (I have one myself) this one has two chain straps with two pockets in the front and kinda give off a quilted look. When I saw it I immediately knew I would be buying it and with a price tag of around $13 (extra 50% off of sale price) it was a no brainer! It kinda reminds me of a Chanel bag, if Chanel made PVC bags I’d imagine it would look similar to this. I wasn’t a fan of the biker shorts trend until I found a way of wearing them that made sense with my style. These had been hanging in my closet since July just collecting dust, I saw a few streetstyle photos of women wearing them with blazers and bingo! I actually love this trend worn this way, you can easily take a blazer and wear it as a dress, cinch it at the waist with a belt and boom. Stylish but not to trendy, always the vibe.

It’s safe to say Carrie Bradshaw aka Sarah Jessica Parker took fashion to the next level. From her furs, tutu’s, funky headpieces, sexy midriffs, signature name necklace and Manolo Blahnik’s we all could find something to take from here sense of style, And if you couldn’t find anything to like about her wardrobe I’m sure her crazy dating life gave you binge worthy television. I was so intrigued watching her run around New York City being a fierce fashionista all while juggling a hectic dating life, maintaining friendships and being a NYC columnist…the life! I always dreamed of living in NYC and living out my fashion writer dreams, sigh. I vicariously lived through Carrie.

Are you a Sex and The City fan? Which character is your favorite? I think it’s clear Carrie is mine but according to some online quiz I’m more of a Charlotte 🙄, lol. I think SATC will be one of those iconic TV shows we’ll be talking about for many more years, it’s just left such a huge impact. I know it’s one of my favorites for sure! Life hack: Just stay away from Mr Big…if you can help it 😂.

Oh Fall…

Blog

When the mornings are cooler, the days become shorter, neutrals are everywhere, the leaves start changing colors and everything is pumpkin spiced it can only mean one thing, Fall has arrived! I don’t know about you guys but the fashionista in me is doing a dance for joy right now. I remember way back in my twenties…(wow seems so long ago lol) when Summer was EVERYTHING to me, but over recent years that has definitely took a turn. Back when I preferred short skirts, super high heels and everything to be skin tight…now I want long grandma skirts, loosely fitted clothing and a nice bootie with a decent heel. I will definitely still wear a 6 inch heel BUT there has to be a good reason for doing so, or an occasion where there will be plenty of sitting room, LOL. Fall has always been the season for Fashion, with New York Fashion Week starting of the month of September I don’t see that changing anytime soon. I haven’t really done much shopping so far and the little bit I did do were all blazers and suits, for some reason I can’t seem to get into much else. I’m sure no one is surprised to see me in yet another slip dress lol, I actually purchased this one back in July and knew the moment I received it I’d be wearing it in the Fall; as opposed to Summer. As I mentioned before that’s the beauty of these they’re so versatile and can easily be layered to achieve whatever look you’re aiming for. This blazer in particular is probably my favorite of all the ones I own; the print, the fit, the pockets (I couldn’t seem to keep my hands out of them in these photos), the colors, the quality, it’s really just an all around good blazer. When I think of Fall, specifically Fall fashion, I automatically think of blazers lol, although they can be worn all year round Fall is when they shine the most…in my opinion. They’ve been on every ones Fall Must Haves list and for good reason too. Since Fall is the official season for layering I think blazers are the perfect layering item. They can be worn alone, with t-shirts, dressy blouses, button ups, chunky knit sweaters, dresses, underneath coats and still give off a chic pulled together look. I personally think everyone should own at least 3 different blazers; a black one, a neutral colored one & one with some kind of print like the one I’m wearing. These booties have been in my closet for years now but I can’t really remember where I purchased them from. I do know it’s between Just Fab or Shoe Dazzle, do any of you guys still have a subscription with them? From what I can remember their shoes were decent and these are at least 4 yrs old, they’re pretty good quality and have held up over the years. The heel is kinda chunky and not to high making them super comfortable and easy to walk in. With cowboy style boots making a comeback this kinda reminded me of them, or maybe this is about as close as I’ll get to wearing cowboy boots again, lol. I remember back when I did have a pair and they were cool then but now I don’t see myself revisiting that trend. But whatever floats your boat, style is all about your own personal flavor.

I rant and rave about Fall all Summer long then never seem to be quite ready once Fall arrives 😂, it’s like I’m ready but I’m not ready, ready, if that makes any sense. It goes from being 90+ degrees outside to 60 degrees with little to no warning lol, while I welcome the drop with open arms I’m always a little confused when Fall first begins. I’ll start the day off wearing a sweater, blazer, hat, scarf and light jacket then be sweating by noon lol. I guess that’s the beauty of layering, having the option of removing some clothes so you don’t burn up. Once the temperatures drop and stay there is when I’m most comfortable, until then my mind be all over the place.

I’m most excited for wearing real clothes this Fall LOL, Hot Girl Summer was cute but Bad Bish Fall has arrived and we are not taking things lightly. What are you most excited for this Fall? Pumpkin spiced lattes? (Unfortunately my stomach won’t allow me to indulge in them anymore) Halloween? Cool cozy nights? Y’all ready for cuffing season, or nah? LOL! Is Fall your favorite season like mine? Let me know down below. Thanks for stopping by and remember, whatever you do, always do it with style.

Workspace revamped

Blog

If you’re anything like me you hate clutter, there’s nothing worse than trying to create in a disorderly atmosphere. I take my creative process pretty seriously and need to have some kind of zen while doing so. While I love a quaint coffee shop just as much as the next person, sometimes I want to be able to just sit in the comfort of my own home and work. I was in need of a new desk so I decided to make a space in home where I could peacefully create. After a few D.I.Y You Tube videos I came up with this space and couldn’t be more pleased with it! Between Walmart, Amazon, Dollar tree and Five and below I did it all for a little over $100 and honestly that’s the best part.

So let me be very clear I HATE putting stuff together, like really dislike it. I’m not reading no instructions and I’m not using no tools lmao, although pretty simple this desk/chair had me wanting to pull my hair out. I don’t know if this is standard for all instructions or what but the instructions provided were just pictures, that’s it lol. Now at first I thought it was a good idea to use pictures but as time went on and my patience wore out I soon realized it was a bad idea, a very bad idea. Between all the screws & the wrong size screwdriver I was literally over it…and to think the reviews all said it was super easy to put together, yeah okay lol. Although a few hiccups here and there I was able to put both the chair and desk together without either pieces collapsing, lol. The chair is a tiny bit wobbly and one of the shelves is slightly off balance BUT I got it done :).

I purchased this photo of the Brooklyn bridge from Five and Below thinking it was A LOT bigger than it actually was…when I received it in the mail I was far from happy and completely confused. For $5 I guess you couldn’t expect much…The picture barely covered a quarter of my wall which led me to getting even more creative (we’ll get to that in a second) lol. I purchased My Himalayan salt lamp from Walmart back in January and it’s definitely one of my favorite things in my home. It has so many great benefits including; mood enhancement and raising energy levels. I keep it on all the time unless I am not home, I even keep a small one on my desk at work. I purchased the faux monstera leaves from Amazon because am I really a blogger if I don’t have some up? Lol, it’s definitely the official plant of bloggers! Now when I received the small photo of the Brooklyn bridge I knew I had to put something else on the wall. I’ve been obsessed with Z-Galleries glitter wall art for awhile now but the price tag was less than pleasing. Well, You Tube had just the cure for that lol for about $25 and some creativity you can have your very own Z-Gallerie inspired wall art for a fraction of the price! I really enjoyed making these, I’ve been wanting to get into painting for some time now and this was the perfect gateway project. Now of course I had yet another hiccup trying to hang these 😩, one of them wouldn’t stick AT ALL and the other one I couldn’t get it to be 100% straight! Tip: just get someone to help you, it’ll save you the headache. Now if you know me you know I’m not really into flowers but I’ve always loved how sleek and chic the Maison des Fleurs flower boxes are, if nothing else they serve as nice decor. This diy was pretty simple and turned out so good! I’m already thinking of making a gold and white one.

I made these coffee table books from random dollar tree books, they were pretty simple to make. A quick google search to find the logos I wanted and boom! The mug was a complete fail gone right, I originally had glitter all over the front of the mug BUT after it dried some of it started to peel, so to speed up the process I peeled off even more and this is what I was left with lol. I liked how it looked up against my painting, the two compliment each other well. The candle I did purchase from Bath & Body Works and whew chile, this candle smells so good! If I had to describe it I’d say tall, dark and handsome lol it reminds me of a subtle cologne scent. Definitely not overpowering at all with hints of mahogany, a very sexy scent.Who else gets excited about stationary items as much as I do? Lol, I really have about a dozen little notebooks laying around, all of which serve a different purpose. Pictured in these photos are my planner, blog book, manifestation journal & dream journal. I’m a writer what can I say…Fun Fact: I carry a notebook around with me EVERYWHERE. If I don’t have at least one I feel weird lol like when I have a small purse that I cannot fit a notebook into i feel like I’m missing something. I know my writers will all understand. This is where the magic happens….LOL

I used to really be into DIY projects years ago back when my patience was a little better lol, I’m really thinking about getting back into it though. Do you have a space in your home specifically dedicated to you? I think we all should! A meditation corner, office space, even an area where you work out. If not you should definitely do it, it’s so beneficial. Put your own little spin on it and watch how you’re gonna feel! It’s definitely a game changer. Thanks for stopping by and remember, whatever you do, always do it with style.

Boyfriend jeans styled 3 different ways…

Blog

If I’m being completely honest jeans are probably my least favorite thing to wear…I know, I know, it’s weird right? But, it’s so true. I don’t know what it is but they’re so uncomfortable to me, it could be because I have trouble finding the perfect fit but they’re normally the last article of clothing I reach for when planning an outfit. If I must wear them I almost always choose a more relaxed boyfriend style, they’re my absolute favorite type of jeans. I currently own about 8 pairs and counting, although I’m sure that number will increase pretty soon lol. I prefer mine to be a little worn in and distressed so I usually always wear my oldest pair. I’ve owned this pair for almost a year now and have worn them multiple times in multiple ways. Of all the ones I own these are probably my favorite, I purchased them from H&M which is normally where I get most of my jeans. Comfortable is an understatement when it come to these, they get better and better with every wash. For this look I chose to pair them with a band tee and a blazer for that edgy cool girl look. Topped it off with a fedora and some Chucks and the look was basically complete. Another thing I’m completely in love with is Band Tee’s…I’ve lost count of how many I have at this point. If I could I’d wear a band tee and baggy jeans damn near everyday, it’s definitely my kind of vibe.First Look: Edgy

With the temperatures finally starting to cool down we’re right in the last days of summer, as a result your wardrobe definitely starts to change. I like to refer to this time of year as the “transition phase” simply because while Fall is near the temperatures doesn’t always reflect that right away. Sometimes it could possibly still be pretty warm/hot well into September, naming Fall the season for layering. I’ll admit I’ve never been the best at layering but I’ve always loved a good layered look. I remember back when the Olsen twins were big in the early 2000’s and they had that whole homeless lady chic look down to a science! I loveeedddddd it, I was walking around with a whole bunch of shit on trying my best to mimic an Olsen twin lol!

Although there’s not a whole lot of layering going on in this look it still gave me that boho chic kinda vibe, I think it has a lot to do with the long flowy top paired with the baggy distressed denim. That’s what I liked most about this outfit, the juxtaposition of the soft dainty top with the oversized ripped up bottoms. I threw on my jean jacket to kinda give it a little more dimension and viola! I had to refrain from adding more layers to this look because it was so hot and humid on this day, in the back of my mind I was thinking channel your inner Mary-Kate Olsen but in reality I was hot as fuck, lol.Second look: Chic

Now I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t throw a little sexy/glam in the mix…one thing I can say about my personal style is that it cannot be easily defined. I’m a moody person by nature (blame my moon/sun sign: Cancer) but my moodiness definitely plays a role when it comes to my sense of style. Depending on how I’m feeling that day you could very well see me out in sweats and a baseball hat OR 6 inch heels, faux fur, large dark sunnies and some sort of dress…it really all just depends on how I’m feeling that day or who I’m going to see…Lol. On this particular day I was feeling a little spicy, lol.

Although I prefer my blazers to be bigger than my actual size for these jeans the fit of this blazer worked, to balance out the bagginess on the bottom I kept it fitted on top. Disclaimer: I actually hate this blazer I feel so stuffed whenever I wear it lol I can barely fit anything underneath it (including my stomach after I’ve ate 😂) and still have room to button it up…AND it only has one button which drives me insane. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect fit black blazer for YEARS now and have yet to come across one I’m completely in love with. I purchased this one last year from H&M and will probably give it away smh I just can’t. I did order yet another one recently and fingers crossed it will fit how I want it to. That’s always been the downside to online shopping; you can’t try shit on.I’ve been crushing on the Celine pillow bag this season but definitely not the price tag, so in true Marquita style I found a more affordable version. I found this one on Forever 21 and didn’t hesitate on buying it, I can’t remember what I paid exactly but I do remember it was on sale and under $20…stick with me guys I can make your buck stretch! These mules will be going with me right into Fall, they’re currently my favorite sandal of the moment. I’ve never been that girl who wore my toes out during the Fall but I’m feeling a little frisky this season…lol. Obviously I won’t be wearing sandals in the snow but in the early Fall I’m thinking, why not? I love how the material is some type of stretchy fabric making them easier to walk in. Look #3: Sexy

Making the most out of the pieces you already own is major key, I’m always so tempted to buy new stuff every year but that’s not always a boss move. Besides if you have true style you can totally revamp your wardrobe with a few small adjustments. Make your wardrobe work for you, not the other way around. So, which look was your fave?? I like them all but the first one is definitely my favorite, what can I say….I’m really just a cool edgy girl at heart lol. Let me know down below which one you’d recreate and if you don’t already you should get yourself a pair(s) of boyfriend jeans ASAP, you definitely won’t regret it! Thanks for stopping by and remember, whatever you do, always do it with style.
